COVID-19 Notice | 2020–2021 Academic Year
As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, the challenges and uncertainty for delivering course content remain in this COVID-19 environment. Edison State Community College intends to provide academic courses through a variety of formats, including hybrid, remote and online. Since unanticipated circumstances at any time could affect the ability to deliver course content in a particular manner, Edison State reserves the right to modify the delivery method for course content for the health and safety of students, faculty and staff. Irrespective of the delivery format Edison State’s competitive tuition and course fee structure shall remain the same for academic courses, consistent with published Edison State tuition and fee schedules. There will be no refund or reduction on tuition or course fees, since Edison State will be providing a full semester of instruction and awarding full academic credit to those who satisfactorily fulfill course requirements.

Diversity describes the coexistence of many cultures in society. By making the broadest range of human differences acceptable to the largest number of people, multiculturalism, as a function of cultural diversity, seeks to overcome racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination. Historically, marginalized
groups within society include but are not limited to, Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, Appalachian Americans, physically/mentally challenged, women and people with alternative life-styles.
The mission of the diversity committee is to raise awareness and provide educational opportunities to the Edison State community, stakeholders, employees and students on the concepts of multi-culturalism, marginalization and inclusive environments.
Representation Research has shown that organizations with more diverse personnel achieve greater success, enjoy higher levels of creativity and ingenuity and maintain higher levels of job satisfaction. In educational institutions, research suggests that student engagement and learning is enhanced when students are
exposed to more diverse perspectives, ideas, beliefs and world views. Increasing the diversity of our students, faculty and staff, and supporting their success, are elements of this theme.
Campus Climate Elements of this theme include the development of a welcoming and respectful campus environment, appropriate response to unwelcomed biases and mistreatment and the intentional inclusion of diverse backgrounds and cultures in all
aspects of the campus, including curriculum, campus activities, art, architecture, personnel and campus life.
Training Essential to this theme is ensuring that students enrolled in degree and certificate programs gain the skills necessary for them to effectively interact and work in a multicultural community. In and out of classroom experiences contribute to this goal and it is critical that faculty and staff
have the skills needed to effectively interact with and educate a diverse student population.
Evaluation and Recognition In every long-term planning effort, it is beneficial to ensure that individuals and groups are recognized for their efforts in promoting its goals and outcomes.
